SUSTAINABLE SOYBEAN PROVIDES BENEFITS FOR BRAZILIAN STATES

The adoption of good agricultural practices has been contributing to carbon sink in soybean production areas in Brazilian states, namely Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, and Bahia (also known as Matopiba), according to a study by the Solidaridad Foundation. “With good practices, it is possible to increase carbon sink by maintaining the property’s legal reserve areas without the need to convert new territories. These areas are not always in the best productive soil conditions, but, through the adoption of good practices, we can optimize regions for greater planting efficiency”, said Rodrigo Castro, director of the Solidaridad Foundation in Brazil. He also emphasized that good soil practices could expand sustainability for soybean production, with economic, social, and environmental gains.
