GROSS VALUE OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION FORECAST AT R$ 1.24 TRILLION IN 2022

Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa) announced on Thursday that the Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) is expected to reach R$ 1.243 trillion in 2022, up 2.4% from 2021 (R$ 1.214 trillion). Crop revenues are estimated at R$ 880.37 billion in May, an increase of 6.56%. Livestock has a projected VBP of R$ 362.64 billion, down 6.4% from last year. According to data from the Department of Agricultural Policy of Mapa, most of the analyzed products had superior performance when compared to 2021. The highlights are as follows: cotton (real increase of 45% in the VBP), bananas (14.2%), potato (26.7%), coffee (37.8%), sugarcane (28.1%), beans (13.9%), corn (20.4%), tomato (40.3%) and wheat (22.1%). Soy, corn, sugarcane, coffee, and cotton add up to 59.7% of the 2022 VBP. Among the states, Mato Grosso, São Paulo, Paraná, Minas Gerais, and Goiás account for 63.2% of the total value of Brazil’s VBP.
