The amount of sugarcane processed in the Center-South reached 50.48 million tons in the second half of July. The result is 1.15% higher than the 49.90 million registered in the same period of 2019. In the accumulated since the beginning of the 2020/2021 harvest until August 1, the crushing reached 326.44 million tons, against 308.96 million recorded in the same period of the previous cycle – growth of 5.66%. The technical director of UNICA, Antonio de Padua Rodrigues, points out that “in July this year, the crushing amounted to 97.04 million tons, being only 1.89% lower than July of the 2017/2018 harvest, when the sector registered the largest quantity cane processed by producers in the Center-South region. Despite the higher crushing in 2017, ethanol production in July this year was higher than the volume registered that year due to the better quality of the raw material observed in 2020 ”, he concluded. In the second half of July 2020, sugar production reached 3.41 million tons, 37.67% more than the 2.48 million tons produced in the last year. Ethanol production, in turn, totaled 2.39 billion liters in the second half of July, against 2.66 billion produced in the same period of the 2019/2020 cycle. Of the total produced in the fortnight, hydrate represented 1.66 billion liters and anhydrous amounted to 735.87 million liters.
