Corn, cotton, orange and beans sectors were highlights, according to the 2019 GDP report. Brazilian agriculture grew 1.3% in 2019, compared to 2018. The information is from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) , which released this Wednesday (4/3) the result of last year’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which, in the countryside, totaled R $ 322 billion last year. “The variation in volume of the Added Value of Agriculture in 2019 (1.3%) was due to the positive performance of both agriculture and livestock, with emphasis on corn (23.6%), cotton (39.8%) , orange (5.6%) and beans (2.2%) “, informs the Institute, in a note. In the fourth quarter of 2019, agriculture grew 0.4% compared to the same period in 2018. In relation to the third quarter of last year, there was a retraction of 0.4%, according to the IBGE. In the overall result, the Brazilian economy ended 2019 with a 1.1% growth compared to 2018. The Gross Domestic Product was R $ 7.3 trillion. Like agriculture, the service sector grew 1.3% in the year. The industry registered an expansion of 0.5% in the year. “The GDP growth resulted from the 1.1% expansion of Value Added at basic prices and the 1.5% increase in the volume of Taxes on Products net of Subsidies”, says the IBGE. In the fourth quarter of 2019, the economy grew 0.5% compared to the third quarter and 1.7% in relation to the range from October to December 2018.
