E32 LIFTS ETHANOL DEMAND, CUTS GASOLINE IMPORTS

Brazil’s decision to raise the mandatory anhydrous ethanol blend in gasoline from 30% to 32% (E32) is expected to increase domestic ethanol consumption and reduce gasoline imports. According to SCA Brasil, the measure will absorb around 500 million liters of the estimated 4 billion liters of additional ethanol output in the current crop year. The Ministry of Mines and Energy estimates gasoline imports will decline by about 900 million liters annually. Initially valid for 180 days, with a possible extension, the policy is expected to support the sugar-energy sector, encourage investment and strengthen Brazil’s renewable fuels industry.
