The Brazilian Federal Government is considering administrative measures that could enable port authorities to grant berthing priority to vessels carrying mineral fertilizers as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the country’s fertilizer supply chain. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, a formal request has been submitted to the Ministry of Ports and Airports, which is currently assessing the proposal in coordination with the relevant port authorities. The initiative covers imported nitrogen, phosphate and potash fertilizers, which account for approximately 93% of Brazil’s domestic fertilizer consumption. If implemented, the measure would not affect existing customs, sanitary, phytosanitary or quality inspection procedures.
