BRAZIL WILL REDUCE SUGAR EXPORTS BY 14% WITH MORE ETHANOL, SAYS SAFRAS & MERCADO.

Brazil’s sugar exports are projected at 29 million tonnes in the 2026/27 season, down 14.2% from 33.8 million tonnes, as mills redirect cane to ethanol amid favorable energy margins, Safras & Mercado said. Sugar output is expected to fall to 40.3 million tonnes from 43.5 million. Total ethanol production, including corn-based fuel, is forecast to rise 10.7% to 42.58 billion liters. Mills are set to allocate 47% of cane to sugar, versus 49% previously. The government may raise the ethanol blend in gasoline from 30% to 35%, potentially adding 920 million liters of demand per percentage point. Domestic fuel pricing remains below import parity, supporting ethanol competitiveness and influencing the production mix.
