Container throughput at ports in Southern Brazil rose 22.3% in January 2026, reaching 4.9 million tonnes and accounting for over one-third of total cargo handled (13.9 million tonnes), according to Antaq. The growth was driven by higher value-added cargo, reflecting a stronger economy, deeper integration into global supply chains, and ongoing port infrastructure investments. Paranaguá led among public ports, followed by Rio Grande, while private terminals such as Itapoá and Portonave boosted regional competitiveness. Petroleum products and fertilizers also stood out. Long-haul shipping increased 7.2% and cabotage 3.7%, signaling stronger cargo flows and logistics activity.
