PRIVATE TERMINALS RISE 14.1% IN JANUARY, DRIVING BRAZIL’S PORT THROUGHPUT

Brazil’s private terminals (TUPs) led port activity in January 2026, handling 68.6 million tons (+14.1% y/y) and accounting for 66% of total volumes. Nationwide throughput reached 103.9 million tons (+12.8%), while public ports grew 10.3%. Growth was driven by liquid and gaseous bulk (+30.6%), boosted by oil exports, with key hubs such as São João da Barra and São Sebastião. Solid bulk also rose (+10%), led by soybeans, corn and bauxite, alongside strong inland waterway growth (+70.8%). Containers saw modest gains (+1.2%), while general cargo fell 22.5%, reinforcing the strategic role of TUPs.
