Brazil’s sugarcane crushing for the 2026/27 season (April–March) is projected to reach 620.5 million tons, up 1.7% from the current cycle, according to consulting firm StoneX. The main revision from January concerns the sugar mix, reduced from 49.3% to 48.7%, which lowers expected sugar output by 700,000 tons to 40 million tons, slightly below this season’s level. The lower sugar mix should increase ethanol production, adding 1.45 billion liters of sugarcane ethanol, while expanding corn ethanol capacity is expected to add 2 billion liters. Corn ethanol output alone is forecast at 11.3 billion liters. In total, Brazil’s biofuel production could reach a record 37.2 billion liters, 10.2% higher than the current season. StoneX also identified 12 potential new ethanol producers entering the Central-South market by March 2027.
