2026 HARVEST FORECAST: SOYBEANS HIT RECORD HIGH, CORN SEES DECLINE AT 342.7 MILLION TONS

In January 2026, Brazil’s production of cereal, legume, and oilseed is projected to reach 342.7 million tons, 1.0% below the 2025 harvest but 0.8% above December forecast. The harvested area should total 82.7 million hectares (+1.4%). Soybeans, corn, and rice account for 92.9% of total production, with soybeans expected to hit a record high of 172.5 million tons. The Midwest remains the leading region, with Mato Grosso continuing as the top grain-producing state, followed by Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. While soybean and bean production rose year-on-year, corn, cotton, rice, sorghum, and wheat posted declines. Regionally, production increased in the South and Northeast but fell in all other areas.
