Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports has signed a R$100 million contract to dredge and upgrade the Port of Recife, aiming to deepen the access channel and allow operations with larger vessels. Approved in January 2026, the project will ensure a minimum depth of 12 meters, an operational draft of 10.7 meters, a 240-meter-wide channel and a 500-meter turning basin, enabling ships of up to 210 meters in length. Works are scheduled to start in March 2026, with completion expected by May 2027, and are split between 2025 and 2026 budgets. The upgrade is expected to reduce regional logistics costs, improve safety, support cabotage and cargo flows, and boost tourism by enabling the port to receive larger cruise ships.
