BRAZIL’S PORT OF ITAQUI SECURES 25-YEAR EXTENSION; NEW TERMINALS TO TARGET $225M IN INVESTMENT

Brazil’s federal government and the State of Maranhão approved an early 25-year extension of the Port of Itaqui’s delegation agreement, allowing EMAP to manage the port complex until 2051. The renewal provides legal certainty for new investment cycles after Itaqui handled nearly 37 million tons in 2025, driven mainly by grain and mineral exports. Contractual stability supports two area auctions planned for 2026, expected to attract about R$ 1.3 billion for agricultural and mineral bulk terminals, and advances infrastructure upgrades, including the R$ 36.3 million VTMIS project under the New PAC. Strategically serving the MATOPIBA region, Itaqui is also strengthening its sustainability agenda, becoming the first public port in Brazil with a full decarbonization plan and earning the Pro-Clima Seal for climate management excellence.
