PORT OF SÃO FRANCISCO CUTS FERTILIZER VESSEL WAITING TIMES BY 60% IN 2025

The Port of São Francisco do Sul reduced waiting times for fertilizer vessels by 60% in 2025 after introducing a rule prioritizing fertilizer berthing. Average delays fell from up to 29 days in March to around 12 days in subsequent months, making the port more efficient than regional peers. Fertilizer imports rose 14.6% year on year to 2.53 million tonnes between January and November, while the port set a third consecutive cargo throughput record, remaining Santa Catarina’s largest by volume. Infrastructure upgrades included the start of a R$333 million dredging project in Babitonga Bay to deepen the channel to 16 metres, removal of a rock obstruction near berths 101 and 102, and R$43 million in investments to improve access, draft and operational efficiency.
