CNI: BRAZIL COULD ACCESS 36% OF GLOBAL TRADE WITH EU-MERCOSUR AGREEMENT

According to a CNI survey, the Mercosur-EU agreement will expand Brazil’s access to the global import market from 8% to 36%, given that the EU represented 28% of world trade in 2024. The treaty is considered a strategic shift for Brazilian industry, granting immediate zero tariffs on 54.3% of products traded with the EU and duty-free access for 82.7% of Brazilian exports to the bloc upon ratification. In return, Brazil will immediately remove tariffs on only 15.1% of European imports, with phase-out periods of up to 15 years for other items. Still pending legislative approval, the deal is expected to boost jobs, investment, industrial exports, and technological cooperation.
