Through the first part of the 2025–2026 harvest season, sugarcane processing in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions reached 32.5 million tons by November 30. This represents a 9.4% decrease compared to the same period in the previous harvest, when 35.9 million tons were crushed. The reduced sugarcane volume had a direct effect on sugar manufacturing, leading to a significant 24% decline. Sugar production totaled 1.66 million tons, down from 2.18 million tons in the prior cycle. Total ethanol production in these regions decreased 7.8% to 1.38 million cubic meters, with hydrous ethanol down 11.3%. In contrast, anhydrous ethanol in the Northeast proved more resilient, rising 5.1%.
