Due to constrained supply in São Paulo’s over-the-counter market, ethanol prices hit their highest nominal level of the 2025-26 harvest last week, according to research from the Cepea. Between December 8 and 12, the average price for hydrous ethanol, as measured by the Cepea/Esalq indicator, rose 0.83% to BRL 2.9092 per liter (net of taxes), marking the ninth consecutive weekly increase. The indicator for anhydrous ethanol also climbed 0.39% to BRL 3.3256 per liter, its eighth straight weekly gain. In contrast, sugar prices experienced significant volatility during the same period, with a trading range of approximately BRL 3.00 per 50-kilogram bag between the weekly low and high.
