PORT OF SANTOS EXTENDS FEE DISCOUNTS FOR “GREEN SHIPS”

The Santos Port Authority (APS) extended for another 90 days the discounts of up to 15% offered since 2023 to “green ships” certified by the IMO’s Environmental Ship Index. Aimed at reducing emissions in a sector responsible for 3% of global GHGs, the measure has already resulted in over R$40.6 million in forgone revenue, including R$16.8 million in 2025. APS seeks to drive the energy transition through logistics efficiency, biofuels, and renewable electricity. It recently partnered with the Valenciaport Foundation to create a Decarbonization Plan and an Energy Master Plan, while also advancing quayside electrification powered by the Itatinga Hydroelectric Plant, which may expand to produce green hydrogen. Additional initiatives include truck and ship sequencing systems and annual GHG inventories certified by Cetesb.
