FORESTS HELP SUPPORT 30% OF GLOBAL AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS.

Forests are crucial for global food security, as they supply atmospheric moisture that sustains 18% of the world’s agricultural production and 30% of grain exports. The study found that 155 countries depend on transboundary forests for up to 40% of rainfall over farmlands, while 105 rely on their own forests for up to 18%. In South America, Brazil and Argentina stand out — Brazil’s forests generate 9% of rainfall for its agriculture, supporting 6% of global food output and 9% of exports, while Argentina receives 14% of its rain mainly from Brazilian forests. The Amazon provides long-term humidity, while other forests act during key growing periods or heat waves.
