Cargo handling at Bahia’s ports totaled 6.1 million tonnes in the first half of 2025, up 10% from last year, according to Companhia das Docas da Bahia. The Port of Salvador led with 3.1 million tonnes, a 7% increase, surpassing Aratu for the first time and becoming the state’s largest port, responsible for 50.1% of operations. Operated by Tecon Salvador and Intermarítima, Salvador edged out the Port of Aratu, which handled 2.9 million tonnes (47.5% of the total, up 5.5%). The Port of Ilhéus registered 112,700 tonnes, a modest 2.2% increase.
