As of May 2025, Brazil’s federal government invested R$51.4 million in railway projects—up 15% from the same period in 2024—mainly to resume stalled sections of the West-East Integration Railway (Fiol) in Bahia. This progress followed a legal agreement with quilombola communities. From January to May, fuel transport by road rose 7.3%, reaching 35.7 million m³, while grain transport (soybeans, corn) increased 3.8% to 40.2 million tonnes. Air freight grew 1.5% (8.1 million kg), and waterway trade volumes increased 0.3%, totaling 394.6 million tonnes. The transport sector also added 4,472 formal jobs in May, led by road freight with 2,676 positions.
