DREDGING PROJECT RESTORES BERTH CAPACITY AT BRAZIL’S PORT OF SÃO SEBASTIÃO

Maintenance dredging at the Port of São Sebastião, on São Paulo’s northern coast, has intensified at berth 101 to restore its 10-meter depth by removing 57,000 m³ of sediment. Conducted by the São Sebastião Dock Company (CDSS) with Ibama’s authorization, the work ensures operational efficiency and safety. Sediment will be sustainably deposited in the port’s Containment Dike for potential reuse. Environmental care includes continuous marine wildlife monitoring with drones; dredging halts if whales or sea turtles are nearby. According to CDSS President Ernesto Sampaio, the dredging boosts safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. The port, overseen by São Paulo’s Semil, has one of Brazil’s deepest channels (up to 42 meters) and plays a key strategic role in coastal cargo transport. Regular dredging is needed due to silting caused by natural forces and ship traffic.
