US EXCEPTION LIST EXCLUDES 82% OF BRAZILIAN AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS

A U.S. tariff increase of 40% will affect 82% of Brazilian agribusiness exports to the U.S. from the first half of 2025, totaling US$5.412 billion. Only 18% (US$1.22 billion) of exports, such as orange juice, pulp, and nuts, were exempted, remaining under the existing 10% tariff. Key products like coffee, beef, sugar, ethanol, and cocoa were not spared, despite prior expectations. Of 789 product codes exported, only 8 received exemptions. Major exports like green coffee (US$1.169 billion) and frozen beef (US$738 million) remain affected. Hopes that items not produced in the U.S. (e.g., coffee, mango, cocoa) would be excluded were dashed, even after statements from the U.S. Secretary of Commerce hinted at possible reconsideration. The new tariff applies in 7 days for goods already in the U.S. and from October 5 for recent shipments.
