Itaqui Port recorded a historic first half of 2025, handling 17.2 million tonnes of cargo—a 10% increase over 2024 and 7% above projections. Solid bulk led, with soybeans at 8 million tonnes (10% growth) and fertilizers at 2 million tonnes (up 39%). Pig iron and copper rose 20% and 19%, respectively. Liquid bulk, accounting for 25% of throughput, saw major gains in tallow (up 70%), caustic soda, and petroleum derivatives. Strong logistics boosted Maranhão’s economy and investor confidence. To support continued growth, Itaqui is expanding with Berth 98, projected to add 8+ million tonnes in capacity annually, and launching ship-to-ship operations at Berth 108 to improve efficiency. Acting president Isa Mary Mendonça emphasized Itaqui’s role as a reliable national logistics hub.
