Dredging at the Port of São Sebastião, on São Paulo’s northern coast, will begin this month after final approval from Ibama. The R$ 6.3 million project, awarded to Dratec Engenharia, will remove 57,572 m³ of sediment to restore the berth and turning basin’s capacity, increasing vessel draft and enabling greater cargo handling. The operation, which last occurred in 2022, will take five months, including 45 days of sediment removal using a hopper dredger. Environmental monitoring will be handled by Salt Engenharia under a R$ 1.38 million contract. While the port’s access channel reaches 25 meters in depth, silting has reduced the berth depth to 8.7 meters. The goal is to restore it to at least 10 meters. The dredging is considered essential for operational safety, supporting São Paulo’s logistics competitiveness and regional development.
