MATO GROSSO DRIVES GROWTH, AND BRAZIL LEADS GLOBAL COTTON EXPORTS

Brazil is set to solidify its position as the world’s top cotton exporter in 2025, with a projected harvest of 3.95 million tons and 2.9 million tons destined for export. After surpassing the U.S. in 2024, Brazil expanded its presence in the Chinese market amid trade tensions. Mato Grosso leads production, accounting for 70% of national output, supported by tax incentive programs. Despite lower global cotton prices—down 17.7% year-over-year—Brazil remains competitive, focusing on quality, traceability, and sustainability. Vietnam recently overtook China as Brazil’s top cotton buyer. Brazil continues to target growth in Asian markets, with recent trade missions to China and South Korea. However, international tariff disputes and weak demand are adding volatility to the global cotton market.
