CHINA SEES A 37.5% SPIKE IN BRAZILIAN SOYBEAN IMPORTS IN MAY THANKS TO SOUTH AMERICA’S BUMPER CROP

China’s soybean imports reached a record high of 13.92 million tons in May 2025, more than doubling those in April, owing to the start of industrial processing and customs normalization. Purchases from Brazil increased 37.5% to 12.11 million tons, despite a 14% year-to-date decrease owing to harvest delays. The United States boosted its contribution, increasing 28.3% in May and 34.3% year on year, suggesting Chinese concerns about potential trade conflicts. Imports from Argentina decreased by 47.5%.
