GLOBAL SUGAR PRODUCTION TO GROW 4.7% IN 2025/26, SAYS USDA

Global sugar production is expected to grow to 189,318 million tonnes in the 2025/26 season, from 180,754 million tonnes in 2024/25, or 4.73%, according to estimates by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), who projected that global demand for the sweetener will total 177,921 million tons in 2025/26, compared to 175,435 million tons forecast for 2024/25 (an increase of 1.4%). According to the USDA, Brazilian production is expected to increase by 1 million tons to a record 44.7 million tons, with higher sugar yields expected due to favorable weather. Production composition is expected to favor ethanol compared to the previous season, with the mill mix falling from 51% to 49% for sugar. Consumption is expected to fall slightly, while exports are expected to increase with increased production.
