According to a report by Emater/RS, farmers in Rio Grande do Sul step up their preparations for winter crops, particularly wheat, white oats, canola, and barley, as the summer harvest draws to a close. With a yield of 2,781 kg/ha and an area of 1.33 million hectares for the 2024 harvest, wheat planting has already begun in some areas. Following the rains, oat planting continued with the hope of expanding the farmed area due to the decrease in wheat. Thanks to early planting and good weather, canola may grow to 240 thousand hectares, up from 147.8 thousand in the previous harvest. Due to market and quality constraints, barley, which is utilized in the brewing industry, keeps a smaller area (35,000 hectares in 2024), with a decline predicted by 2025.
