2023-24 SUGARCANE HARVEST REACHES 646.39 MILLION TONS; 24 UNITS OPEN THE NEW SEASON

Over 2.22 million tons of sugarcane were crushed in Brazil’s center-south area in the first half of March, a considerable increase over the same period the previous year. The total amount of sugarcane crushed in the 2023–2024 crop was 649.39 million tons, which indicates a 19.40% increase. According to Unica, 24 of the 40 units that are now in service have begun the 2024–25 harvest. The sugar output has increased by 25.80%; 64.30 thousand tons were produced in the first half of March. Ethanol production has grown, with a 104% increase to 336.08 million liters of hydrous ethanol produced. The overall amount of ethanol produced has grown by 15.90% since the beginning of the harvest.
