The Transnordestina railway is set to double the cargo handling capacity of the Pecém Port by 2035. The current annual cargo throughput at the port, around 20 million tonnes, is projected to reach 41 million tonnes. The railway, slated to have its own terminal within the Pecém Complex, is expected to commence operations in 2027, with an initial throughput of six million tonnes per year. By 2057, which is when the Transnordestina private concession will end, studies anticipate that the Private Use Port Terminal of Nordeste Logística S.A (TUP Nelog) will handle 33 million tonnes of various cargoes, including grains, minerals, and general cargo (containers). “The construction schedules for both the railway and the terminal are synchronized. Everything interconnected and operational by 2027,” stated José Roberto Correia Serra, Director of Nordeste Logística S.A (Nelog).
