SUGARCANE HARVEST IN THE NORTH-NORTHEAST REACHES 45.86 MILLION TONS

The North-Northeast sugar cane harvest for 2023/24 reached 45.86 million tons, a 5.9% increase from last year. The Association of Sugar, Ethanol, and Bioenergy Producers reported growth in sugar and ethanol production: sugar rose by 11.8% to 2.55 million tons, while ethanol increased by 1.9% to 1.81 billion liters. Sugar remains the primary export, benefiting from favorable exchange rates. Ethanol faces challenges due to unstable policies, leading to increased exports of sugar. Hydrous ethanol production surged by 10.3%, but anhydrous biofuel decreased by 5.3%. However, physical stocks of anhydrous increased by 30%, while hydrated ethanol decreased by 17.43%. Total ethanol stocks reached 367.1 thousand liters, up by 41.54% from the previous harvest.
