SÃO MARTINHO RAISES US$165 MILLION WITH IFC FOR BIOMETHANE PLANT AT SANTA CRUZ PLANT

São Martinho secured a US$ 165 million loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to build its first biomethane plant in Santa Cruz, Américo Brasiliense (SP). The project will produce renewable natural gas from sugarcane vinasse, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 32,000 tons per harvest. The financing also supports sugarcane field renewal and sustainability projects like São Martinho Inova (renewable carbon production) and Formação de Agentes Locais (community training). Operations start in late 2025, with plans to expand. The plant will be connected to a gas pipeline, offering a renewable fuel alternative. São Martinho will control biomethane production, ensuring independence in fuel use, including replacing diesel in its fleet. The IFC loan complements other funding from BNDES and Finep, reinforcing São Martinho’s commitment to a low-carbon economy and circular energy solutions.
