The Port of Pecém is currently in negotiations to introduce two new navigation routes, aiming to address the growing demand for import and export in the Northeast region. André Magalhães, the Commercial Director of the Pecém Complex (Cipp), has revealed that this new service could be launched as early as October or November of this year. While the details of the negotiations have not yet been disclosed, the goal is to expand the port’s capacity to serve the Northeast, Pecém, and Ceará. Recently, the maritime terminal resumed a seasonal route for exporting fresh fruits via the MSC Sofia Celeste vessel, destined for the ports of Rotterdam and London, representing 98% of the shipped volume. The initial cargo included melons, watermelons, mangoes, and grapes from various Northeastern states. With technology, investments, and this seasonal service, a minimum 10% increase in the movement of these products at the Port of Pecém is expected, rising from 6,500 containers in 2022 to 7,300 containers in 2023, equivalent to 182,000 tons.
