PORT OF SUAPE WILL HAVE THE COUNTRY’S FIRST GREEN TERMINAL FROM 2026

The Port of Suape in the state of Pernambuco will host Brazil’s first green container and general cargo terminal, with operations scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. APM Terminals, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller-Maersk, is responsible for constructing this terminal, which will occupy an area of 495,000 square meters after signing an addendum to the contract with Estaleiro Atlântico Sul. Construction of the terminal is set to commence in 2024, with operations planned for the second quarter of 2026. The electrified terminal, with an estimated investment of R$ 1.6 billion, will have an initial capacity for 400,000 TEUs and will serve as a cargo hub for the Northeast and North regions, with the potential to increase the port complex’s capacity by 55%. Additionally, the terminal will use advanced technology, including remote-controlled operations and its own 5G network.
