PORT OF PECÉM REAPS NEW CONTAINER THROUGHPUT RECORD IN 2022

In the year it completed 20 years of operation, the Pecém port terminal, which is part of the Pecém Port Complex (CIPP S.A.), a joint venture between the government of Ceará and the Port of Rotterdam, reached another milestone: it obtained a new container throughput record in 2022. In total, 417,132 TEUs were handled at the Ceará-based port, up 2% compared to 2021, with 410,557 TEUs handled. The total cargo moved year-to-date was 17,112,232 t in 2022, 10,624,987 t of which corresponded to landings, while another 6,333,754 t corresponded to shipments. Cabotage accounted for 62% of this movement, while long-haul navigation had a 38% share. The biggest highlight in terms of cargo movement was solid bulk, in particular ores, slag, and mineral fuels. Containerized cargo also played an important role, as well as loose cargo.
