IMPORTED LNG PRICE SOARS, BRAZIL IS PRESSED ON NATURAL GAS PROJECT

The costs of imported LNG (liquefied natural gas) have increased by more than 85% this year, driven by soaring prices in the international market due to the energy crisis in Europe. On the other hand, the volume of gas for thermoelectric production has dropped significantly. For analysts, the global LNG market will remain tight in the coming years, raising the risk of Brazil’s dependence on LNG imports, in addition to exposing the country’s difficulties in taking advantage of its abundant gas supply due to the lack of infrastructure. Brazil’s demand for thermoelectric power plants has plunged this year, as the wet season helped raise the level of hydroelectric power, the main source of electricity in the country.
