CUSTOMS CLEARANCE PORT OF SANTOS RECEIVES MEASURES TO EXPEDITE WHEAT IMPORTS

In a recent move, the Port of Santos has implemented changes to expedite customs clearance for wheat imported from the Mercosur. The decision, published in the Official Gazette of the Union and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), aims to enhance efficiency in port processes. Two crucial changes have been highlighted in the regulation: a reduction in the maximum time for direct wheat discharge authorization by the Federal Revenue from 48 hours to just 6 hours, and the simplification of phytosanitary control procedures. These measures are intended to reduce bureaucracy and costs associated with ship waiting and grain storage. The wheat sector, represented by the Brazilian Association of Wheat Industries (Abitrigo), has praised the initiative, which will benefit the national milling sector and reduce costs for consumers of wheat-derived products, such as bread and pasta. The Port of Santos is a significant point of entry for wheat in Brazil, importing approximately 1.2 million tons annually.
