CORN PLANTING IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL REACHES 79% OF THE AREA

Corn sowing for the 2023-2024 harvest has achieved 79% of the area in Rio Grande do Sul, covering 817,521 hectares. While some farmers have finished the major crop planting, others want to replenish the land during the off-season. According to Emater/RS-Ascar’s Conjunctural Newsletter, 75% of crops are in the germination and vegetative growth stage, 20% are blooming, and 5% are in the grain-filling stage. The plants are developing adequately, but the younger leaves are fading due to a lack of light. The general state of the crops in the Santa Rosa area is excellent, although there is a decline in the expectation of yield in several towns owing to severe rainfall and hail. Due to continuous rainfall and last winter crop efforts, just 13% of the projected soybean acreage was seeded.
