The corn planted area in Brazil’s first harvest is expected to increase 1.8% in 2020/2021, to 4.46 million hectares, compared to 4.38 million hectares in 2019/2020, Datagro projected. According to the consultancy, if the climate remains within the normal range and there is “maintenance of a high technological standard”, the production potential of summer corn will be 28.39 million tons, 8.8% above the estimated 26.10 million tons consultancy for the current season. For the winter harvest, Datagro projects an area increase of 3.2%, to 14.82 million hectares, compared to 14.36 million hectares in the current cycle. The production potential, according to Datagro, is 83.74 million tons, 8.2% above the 77.37 million tons projected for this year. According to Datagro’s grain coordinator, Flávio Roberto de França Junior, Brazil can produce a total of 112.136 million tonnes in 2020/21, exceeding the 103.470 million tonnes of the current season in both seasons.
