According to Emater-RS, the 2022/23 corn harvest reached 46% of the areas in Rio Grande do Sul, up 7% from the previous week, with corn crops harmed by drought and high temperatures. The last cycle’s corn harvest was 51%, while the average for this time of year is 42%. On the other hand, the lack of rain means some farmers have yet to complete their planting. According to Emater, 99% of the areas have been sown, albeit with a delay compared to the historical average. On the state’s western border, corn crop productivity in Sao Borja fell by 50% from the estimated 4.8 tons per hectare production during planting.
