Brazilian sugar and ethanol producer Jalles Machado SA said late on Wednesday it will invest 170 million reais ($35.6 million) in building a new sugar plant in the state of Minas Gerais, adjacent to the Santa Vitoria ethanol facility. The new Santa Vitória facility will have the capacity to produce 15,000 50kg bags of VHP sugar, which is equivalent to 750 tons per day, totaling 150,000 tons per crop. According to the projection, the operation will start with the 2024–2025 harvest. According to Jalles Machado, this will give the unit, which is presently turning 100% of its mix into the production of ethanol, more flexibility to produce sugar, allowing it to use up to 52% of its mix.
