Brazil will become self-sufficient in wheat production in up to 5 years. The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) president, Celso Luiz Moretti, made the prognosis. “We saw an estimated demand of 13 million tonnes this year, but Brazil is going to produce 9 million tonnes. In other words, we believe that in 5 years, Brazil may become self-sufficient in wheat production at this pace,” he argued. According to the president of Embrapa, after Brazil adapted wheat production to Cerrado soil, the country began to entertain the prospect of self-sufficiency. Wheat is produced in colder regions such as southern Brazil, Argentina, Canada, the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.
