BRAZIL: COMMODITY SALE TO ARAB NATIONS SOARS

Brazilian exports to the 22 countries in the League of Arab Nations rose 33.58% (US$ 3.86 billion) in the first quarter, according to a report by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. The boost in sale was driven by Arab investments for the transition of their economies to the post-oil era and a spike in agricultural commodity prices, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which restricted the participation of these countries in the international market of grains and fertilizers. The increase in Brazilian sales to the Arabs, whose agenda is led by mineral and food commodities, is also a reflection of the movement of these countries which depends to some extent on imported food. Excepting iron ore, which accounts for most of Brazil’s sales to the Arab nations (US$ 690.29 million, -12.5% in the first quarter), the other products on the list are from agriculture. These products increased, especially chicken meat ($591.09m, +10.66%), sugar ($588.8m, +19.79%), soy products ($318.02 million, +122.84%), wheat ($285.86 million, +438.06%), corn ($269.6 million, +27.21%), and frozen beef ($267.57 million, +165.73%).
