BRAZIL AND GUATEMALA TEAM UP FOR ETHANOL

During the opening of the first edition of the event “The Sustainable Mobility: Ethanol Talks Guatemala” on Tuesday (03), authorities and researchers from Brazil and Guatemala discussed the benefits and challenges associated with the use of a 10% blend of ethanol in gasoline cross country. The event was promoted by the Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), Local Productive Arrangement of Alcohol (APLA) and the Brazilian Promotion Agency of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil). Ethanol Talks seminars aims at contributing to the Brazilian experience in the production, distribution, and use of ethanol in diverse areas, such as public policy, technology, environment, and public health. More than 60 countries in the world have already established some level of blending of ethanol in gasoline. In the case of Brazil, the use of ethanol by about half of light vehicles prevented 600 million tons of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere. In Guatemala, with an effective policy that uses the blend of 10% of ethanol in gasoline, about 250 thousand tons of CO2 per year could be avoided.
