Brazil is expected to set a record of 7.3 billion liters of biodiesel production in 2023, thanks to an increase in the mandatory mixture of biodiesel in diesel fuel, from 10% (B10) to 12% (B12). The rise in production by 650 million liters will make Brazil the third-largest producer of biodiesel in the world, according to the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove). The introduction of B13 in 2024 will increase output to 8.4 billion liters. Notably, Brazilian biodiesel is more ecologically beneficial than fossil fuel, generating 80% less greenhouse gas. ANP Resolution No. 920/23 has strengthened biodiesel quality requirements in Brazil, which is another step toward sustainable energy.
