AQUATIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2023 BREAKS HISTORICAL RECORD

The Brazilian aquatic transportation sector broke a historical record in the third quarter of 2023, with a movement of 348.9 million tons. The growth was 6.9% compared to the same period of 2022. The record was driven by the increase in the movement of iron ore, crude oil, and corn. 107.54 million tons of iron ore were moved (growth of 5.82%), 57.3 million tons of crude oil (increase of 15.4%), and 31.57 million tons of corn (positive variation of 18.85%). In navigation, cabotage grew 1.94%, inland navigation grew 12.63%, and maritime and port support navigation increased 21.3%. Private Use Terminals (TUPs) recorded 228.7 million tons, an increase of 8.25% compared to the same period of the previous year. The positive highlight was Tpet/Toil in Açu, Rio de Janeiro, with growth of 37.67%. Organized Ports moved 120.2 million tons, an increase of 4.48% compared to the same period of the previous year. Santos Port was the port with the highest movement, with 37 million tons.
