ZEROING SUGAR TARIFF IS A “NATURAL AND APPROPRIATE” MEASURE, SAYS UNICA CEO

Unica CEO Evandro Gussi called the government’s decision to eliminate the sugar import tariff a “natural and appropriate” step to help stabilize food prices. After a meeting at the Palácio do Planalto, he emphasized the sector’s willingness to boost production if domestic demand rises. Gussi noted a 10% drop in sugar prices last month but admitted it’s hard to predict the market’s response due to the lack of similar past scenarios.
