Brazil’s domestic grain consumption is growing significantly, reshaping the country’s export dynamics. Corn consumption jumped from 62 million tons in 2018/19 to an expected 96 million tons in 2024/25, driven by ethanol and animal protein industries. This shift has reduced corn exports, projected to fall from 55 million tons in 2022/23 to 34 million tons in 2024/25. Ethanol now accounts for 19% of corn use, up from near-zero a decade ago. Soybean processing is also rising, driven by biodiesel demand, with domestic milling expected to reach 57 million tons by 2025. Despite robust exports (105 million tons projected for soybeans in 2024), the growing domestic market offers stability and incentives for producers.
