WITH A NEW FORECAST FOR THE SUGARCANE HARVEST IN ALAGOAS, MILLS BET ON ETHANOL

The state of Alagoas is poised to solidify its position as the leading sugar and ethanol producer in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions. Mills are expected to process approximately 18 million tons of sugarcane for the 2025-26 harvest, representing a 3.4% increase from the previous year’s 17.4 million tons. The season is marked by a significant strategic shift in the production mix. Rather than a short-term adjustment, this is a fundamental redefinition favoring ethanol. Sugar output has been revised down from an initial 1.5 million tons to approximately 1.1 million tons. In contrast, ethanol production is expected to see substantial growth, with a projected increase of over 23% compared to the 405,617 cubic meters produced in the last harvest.
